Before making a purchase decision, it's important to consider several factors.

When deciding to implement data collectors, it is important to consider that they are essentially computers with a bare operating system. In order for these devices to perform any warehouse movements, scanning to a list, or file transfer to a computer, they need to be properly configured or have additional, often paid, software installed. While the Android system is more user-friendly due to its versatile use in mobile devices, older Windows Mobile systems may pose configuration challenges. Another key difference between data collectors and, for example, smartphones is the use of a memory backup battery in data collectors. This battery is used to maintain all our configurations when the main battery is not installed. If the backup battery is depleted or completely worn out during a battery replacement with a charged one, it can result in data loss, such as Wi-Fi connections, installed programs, remote desktop connection icons, etc.

Data Security

To prevent this, we can use non-volatile memory, which (on Zebra/Motorola/Symbol devices) is the \Application partition. By using .EXE, .CPY, and .REG files, the scanner will automatically restore all settings and install the software. During the factory reset (Cold Boot) procedure, the scanner analyzes the data from the /Application partition and automatically restores the full configuration. In the case of remote desktop connections, this operation time is not noticeable to the user. However, if the scanner needs to install databases or dedicated software, this time may be extended to several seconds. However, please note that this operation occurs once or twice per 8-hour shift, which has no significant impact on work downtime.
